The Broken Cable.

Per Press Association. Wellington, May 28. Tho cable steamer Sherard Osborne has again returned to harbor, having picked up two of the fractured portions of the cable. Tlic recovered wire measures 18 miles. It has been ascertained that although the cable recovered is in a few instances somewhat corroded, yet as a whole the wire is lu good condition, and will, it is believed, last for some years to come. The overhauling operations will bo completed in about three days hence, and this having been accomplished, it will be taken out and spliced to the buoyed end nearest Lyell Bay, and the remaining portion of the severed cable will then be grappled for.
