(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, May 26. This morning, John Henry Donovan, an old offender, was sentenced at the Police Court to 15 mouths’ had labor for obtaining money under the pretence that he was collecting money for starving families of the unemployed. Wellington, May 2S. A man named Green, 68 years of age, is reported missing from the village settlement near Mahiatua, since Wednesday last, A young man named George Henning (was charged at the R.M. Court to-day with being a deserter from 11.M.5. Nelson while she was in this port in March, 1887. After hearing the evidence as to his arrest, His Worship committed accucd to prison until one of Her Majesty’s ships come to New Zealand, so that he ean be put aboard.
