A Wellington, May 3. Joseph Giles, R.M., is gazetted commissioner for the purposes of the New Zealand Extradition Act. Wm. Gibbs is gazetted B.M. at Nelson, with jurisdiction at LIOO. Leonard Stowe is gazetted examiner of standing orders on private bills. A despatch from Lord Knutsford, giving farther particulars at to the international union for the protection of literary and artistic works, is published in the Gazette to-night. In paragraphs 4 and 5 Lord Knutsford states that (4) “I have therefore to request that I may be informed at your earliest convenience whether it is the wish of your Government that legislation should be instituted in the Imperial Parliament for extending to works of art produced in the colony the same privileges of copyright throughout the empire as are now possessed by literary works produced in the colony; (5) I may indicate the following as a further reason which seems to render it desirable that such legislation should be had. Colonists producing works of art in a foreign country would under the convention appear to be entitled to such copyright, as by the laws of that country would bo enjoyed by its subjects, but if that country finds that reciprocal advantages are not obtainable by its subjects in the colonies, it might be inclined to alter its law so as to withdraw these advantages from colonists residing in such country. Amended conditions for reward of LIO.OOO for discovery of new goldfields are published tomight as follows : Maximum sum offered is a reward for any discovery of new goldfield in accordance with these conditions, LSOOO for North Island and LSOOO for Middle Island ; (2) newly - discovered gold field must be situated not less than forty mile* from any existing goldfield or any existing workings ; (3) no reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold have been produced from the newly-discovered field within three years from the date of its being registered.
