Per Press Association. Dunklin, Jan 22. The annual bowling match between the Dunedin and Caledonian Clubs was won by the former, after an exciting game, by one point. It is stated that a solitary miner cleared £IOOO out of a patch of ground at the Old Man Range, Wellington, Jan 22. To-morrow being' Anniversary Day will be "observed as a close holiday. The Island Bay races, regatta, and Druids' sports are the principal attractions in town, while thore will bo numerous excursions to the country. The regatta and sports are expected to attract large gatherings, but the races appear somewhat flat. Russley is favorite for the Cup. A Chinaman’s store in Taranaki-street was broken into last night, and a quantity of tobacco stolen. The polico believe larrikins are conceinecj. in it The New Zealand Alliance and Wesleyan Conference held a united temperance meeting in the Theatre Doyal last evening. The chair was qceupied by Sir W. Fox, President qf the Alliance, The Revs F. W Isitt and W. J, Watkins represented the Alliance; Mr J. A. D. Adams, P.W.G.T., represented the Good Templars; and Mr T. W. Glover the New Zealand Alliance. The attendance was poor. By tho Waihora, from Auckland this morning, several busses and 30 horses arrived, consigned to Messrs Cotterill and Young, who intend to run in opposition to the City trains, the proprietors of which have not made any effort to extend their lines beyond those first Hid. The busses are likely to become very popu’ar, as they will run to portions of the to"- 1 where the trams do not touch and to the principal recreation grounds. Each bus will run to the gate, where asnqw the tram during the foqtball season stops some hundred yards from the reserve. The fares are to be the same as the tram. !
