[Notes dy Soket.] On Pnursday mou’ng Orient commenced proceedings by going iU'es at nearly his best pace, winch I thmk quito fast enough for most to bo engaged at our Box ; ng-Day meetmg. Jim was next to put in a sweat of about four rr ; les; lie wea; s a leather hoot n aching from fetlock to kueo on each leg. Waipiro (a maiden hack of Mr H. H. Dodson) did two miles at about ha’f pace. Barosma, after going a m’lo and a ha! slow, got over a similar distance at time-quarter pace; sho pulled up a Jit fl e sore. Agatha cantered about a nrlo and then jumped oil and did about a ir’le and a half iu very creditable style. Swordsman, accompanied by one of the Riverlands’ three-year-olds, went once round at top speed ; the youngster struck b’msclf and pi 'led up lame; Swordsman, ho ivever, had all the best of the gallop. I hear from good authority that Sweetie is 100 l 'ng very well and seems to have clono a lot of work. At present she is suffertog with a sore shin, but not of a serious nature. Her Ladyship also bears the appearance of having been sent along.
