The Irish Question
Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright Reuter’s Telegrams. Received Dec 11 at 10.50 a.m. London, Dec 10. A great meeting of Unionists followed by a banquet was held at Westminster yesterday, at which the Duke of Argyll, Earl Morley and many other notabilities were present. Tho speeches dealt chiefly with tho Irish question, but in the course of his speech Lord Ilartington admitted that a certain amount of activity was being displayed by a section of the Conservative party in favor of fair trade which might be declared an imperil coalition at present existing between the two parties. The leaders of the Conservatives, however, his 'Lordship added, did not support the agitation, and in any case protection if ever adopted could bo revoked, but Homo Rulo once, granted could not.
