(Per Press Association,) Dunedin, Nov 1 7. Peter Dow, one of those W iat is known as a walking or poclui totalisator, was charged at the Police Court to-day with unlawfully conducting a. scheme by which prizes of m uny weic competed for by a mode of chance. One charge was in connection wilh the Melbourne Cup, and tho second with the New Zealand Cup. There was some difficulty about proving the former charge, hut after evidence had been hoard in the second case accused’s counsel said he would plead guilty if the first was withdrawn. This was accepted and a fine of 30s and costa was inflicted in the second ease.
