MR A. P. SEYMOUR

To thk Editor

Snt, — Referring to the letter in your issue of the Kith inst., dated from Tunmarina and signed “Liberal,” J should like to sav a few words.

Mr Seymour’s run is purely pastoral country, and is not fit for “settlement for the people,” and I have no doubt it was paid for at the full market value when it was bought.. The Awatere land called Wakefield Downs was mostly sold by the Now Zealand Company before Mr 'Seymour came to the country. For the services Mr Seymour lias rendered to the public during the last twenty-five years he has not drawn a remarkable amount of

public money. As Superintendent his work was a labor of love, and the pay was not in proportion to the work that had to ho done, sometimes not even covering 1 travelling expenses. Asa rnembei of the House and Chairman of Committees ho did not receive more than must have been paid to any other member who occupied the position —I am, Ac. J. C. CIIAYTOK.
