MARLBOROUGH CRICKET ASSOCl AT lONFOURTH CUP MATCH, BLENHEIM C.C. V PICTON C.C. The abivo match was played on the Picton ground on Saturday and resulted in an easy win for the Pioton team by an innings and 115 runs. Newth the Blenheim Captain won the toss and sent Pictan to the wickets, Bellairs and E. Neal facing the bowling of Cross and Draper. Runs came fast and when th * score stood at 38 Bellairs was bowled by Swain who had gone on in the place of Cross. The retiring Captain played a good free innings and rattled up his runs in a very short time. Andrews, a “ reputation ” man, joined E. Neal who was playing in his usual steady style, t iking a lot out of the bowlers by his stonewal ing. Andrews, when he had scored 5, was nicely caught by Draper off Swain. None of the remaining batsmen showed particularly good form though runs came fast, J. Entwistle knocking up 15 in his happy-go-lucky style 14 being made in three hits. The Blenheim bowling was weak, and the fielding on the whole was very indifferent, though Cross, Draper and Swain showed up very well, and Mclvor, who was suffering from ajdislocated finger, stopped a good many hot ones in the out field The Picton innings closed for 195 and Cross and Mclvor faced the bowling of J. Entwistle and Dry, Mclvor who was barely able to hold his bat, from the injury to hi- hand, was bowled in his first over. Then followed a melancholy procession, none of the batsmen being able to make any stand against the Picton bowlers, Dry being very deadly, keeping very straight and a first rate length, The innings closed for 35, 160 behind their opponents. . In their second innings the Blenheim batsmen made a better stand and, though the scoring was slow, gave the bowlers a good deal of trouble. Watson especially took a lot of the edge off the bowling. Rayner also stuck to his work well stopping a number of good balls. But the Picton bowlers were not to be denied, and the innings closed for 45. Although the local men suffered such a severe defeat it must be borne in mind that they were laboring under the disadvantage of playing with two of their best ba\s and bowlers away.
