The police consider the circumstance* suspicious. __ Auckland, Not 22. _ At the Police Court Thoms* Bowden wat ordered to pay L 6) for the m&intenance of his sou at Rohimarsmara Industrial School, 4£ years of age, for 13 year*, He had the child in the Charitable Institution under the name of Edwin Bowen, whilst his real name was Charles Bowden, *nd never disclosed tbe parentage of the boy or saw him. Bowden ha* a freehold property and 9s a day. Dunedin, Nov 22. A girl named Thomson, daughter of a resident at Beaamont, was drowned while crossing the Clutha in a punt. A wagon with some 6 tons of merchandise, which wai on board, was thrown into the river
anrl the goods, to the value of about L 250, lost. The puntsman and two other men who wore in it when it broke away from the rope were got ashore two milea down tho river.
