THE MAORI COURT.

The Maori Court in the New Zealand Exhibition w composed almost entirely of ethnological curiosities and pain'mg* collected by Dr Buller, C M.G., F.R.S., of Wei lington In the wall cases are fitted a magnificent show of Maori flax and feather costumes, and the table cases are crowded with greenstone meres, elaborately carved clubs, and Maori ornaments ot every kind. The sides of the court are covered wich carved slabs, in'dels of war canoes, and trophies of spears and other weapons. The gallery of lifesize poi traits (G. G. Lin H auer) of Maoris i 1 native costume, which occupy a considerable space, are very interesting and quite unique, but the chief attraction in this court is the carved perch of a pataka or Maori storehouse. This is a superb specimen of carving and loo’s very effectue, especially at nigh', whan the pear-shell “ eyes,” with which it is p-ofusely studded, sparkle under the electric light, H.R.H, the Prince of Wales, wh n he made his visit of inspection, s emed greatly pleased and interested in this Maori structure, and asked I>r Buller several questions respecting its age and so forth. An elaborately caivod Maori tomb, obtained at Rotorua and exhibited by the same gentleman, is now being erected in the conservatory adjoining the New Zealand court—Anglo.New Zealander.
