The Pekapiu bush is levelled with the ground, Rotorua!’,ina is reported to have di appeared.’’ "Taupo, 7 p.m.--The eruptions are confined to the country about Wairoa and Like Tarawera, and thence towards Kdngaroa. A large tract of country is in ac ion, probab y over sixty square mi:es, detached, uot continuous, but it is impossible to say with certainly on account of the dense smoke. All the country from Lake Tarawera is more or less in action to all appearance. Have not heard of any Taupo Da'ives being there ; certain to liave heard if there were any, Sharp earthquake here but no damage.
