APPOINTMENT OF CAPT. BADHAM
BLUE UNIFORMS FOR VOLUNTEERS Wellington, May 8.
Major Cautley, whose services were only allowed to the Colonial Governineut fora period of twelve months by the British Government, and whose time has now expired, will be succeeded by Capt. Badham, who arrived here to-day. The Minisfer of Defcuce has issued an order that the New Zealand forces are to be clothed in blue cloth. Any variations in facings if desired will be allowed. The Volunteers will be permitted to choose their own colors.
Dunedin, May 8. The Defense Works at Taiaroa Heads are nearly completed. The Armed Con-' labulary men there have mounted the hree 64-cwt and the 7-inch guns.
