Constable G. Murray, Greymouth, who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Whitworth, Broadway, has. returned to his home.

A beautiful specimen of the Monarch butterfly was a source of attraction in a'Matamata garden on a recent Sunday. Artichoke flowers appeared to attract the insect, which remained motionless for considerable periods, to the delight of those present, who were thus able to inspect the beautiful colourings at leisure.

In view of the new shipping service to South Africa the New Zealand Meat Producers Board is investigating the position with a view to opening up a trade in New Zealand mutton and lamb in South Africa. As a result of the shipments made to Canada last year the board has made increased shipments to Canada this year.

Master Ronnie Peddie, the 13-year-old Matamata boy soprano, whom the manager of the Young Australian Band and Revue Company made a special visit to Matamata to engage, has met with great success on tour. At the Wellington Opera House Ronnie, dressed as a sheik, sang “ The Desert Song ” and also .. “ Silent Night” to vociferous applause. Ronnie's contract was indeterminate as far as the tour was concerned, but his parents have so far acquiesced in, only a month's engagement. , t , ;: Mrs. G. & Bell and Peter Alquist,; of Matamata, leave on Saturday next for Prankton, en route for Wellington-, where they will join as Mata? mata representatives the party of 62 from the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association which leaves by the Awatea for Sydney on Monday. Mrs. Bell will be matron in charge and Peter is the Matamata selection from ex-servicemen’s sons 1 between the ages of 12 and 14 years who have been invited by Australian exservicemen to spend two weeks’ holiday iii'Sydney - ." ■'
