MATAMATA BRANCH Mrs. N. S. Griffiths presided over the December meeting of the Matajtnata branch of the W.D.F.U., when there was an attendance of about'2o ladies at the Farmers’ Hall on Wednesday afternoon. ; ( The creed was recited. Mrs, H. S. Wright judged a competition for the best jar, of flowers. [Mrs. N. S. Griffiths’ entry gained first place, while Mrs. Clyffe Taylor Was second and Mrs. J. E. Sorrenson third. , •
' Mrs. Clyffe Taylor was awarded, lj 2 and 3 places in a competition for Christmas gifts based on demonstrations given at previous meetings. An illustrated demonstration of Wood-pulp fibre flower-making was given by Mrs. H. S. Wright and was fully appreciated by the members. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames J. Woolnough. and J. Schoular. . :.'m.
PUTARURU BRANCH There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Putayuru branch of the W.D.F.U. last week, when two new members were .elected.
The branch delegates to the East [Waikato Provincial Council made their report for the year. It was stated that 19 housekeepers had been kept busy and that there were insufficient housekeepers to meet the demand. The council had decided to hold over the matter of dressmaking classes for further discussion. Various remits from the branch had been approved and would be forwarded to the annual conference: . j The Overdale, Taumangi and Ta~ papa group of the queen carnival committee stated that there would be approximately £46 available for the division toward immediate improvements to the rest room. It was decided that a portion of this sum should be held for future maintenance; !
A competition for the best article made from scraps of wool was won by Mrs. V. L. Drummond with a knitted cushion. Mrs. H. Robinson, with a tea cosy, was second. This was the final meeting tor 1936, the next meeting being in midJanuary, when the roll call will be “ An example of absent-mindedness.” ..competition will be for six pieces of shortbread.
