STOCK SALES

PRICES AT MORRINSVILLE Gisborne Cattle in Demand First Ewes From East Coast Values were well sustained at the Morrinsville stock sales on Friday, when buyers were present in large numbers to compete for yardings that were larger than usual. FARMERS’ AUCTIONEERING CO. Included in a larger yarding of sheep were the first consignments of East Coast two-tooth ewes of the season, which realised the very satisfactory prices of up to 36s Id. Competition for store ewes and wethers was keen and prices in advance of last sale’s quotations were realised. Fat sheep were not so keenly sought after, although a good clearance was effected by private treaty.

Cow and heifer beef came forward in full numbers, choice quality being scarce. Competition was good, and prices remained firm at late quotations. Fresh-conditioned Jersey and boner cows were also penned in larger numbers and maintained unchanged values. Prices for potter bulls showed no alteration. There was a smaller entry of diary cattle, the majority being heifers with no choice sorts. Full values were realised.

The special entry of over 1000 Store cattle from Gisborne and East Coast districts came forward in good order and attracted a large bench of buyers. Competition throughout was keen, and recent values were easily maintained, especially in the case of the male cattle, the quality of which was first class. In the female cattle section any heifers suitable for breeding purposes were in keen demand, but empty and speyed cows showed a slight decline in values from last sale. Young cattle, both steers and heifers, easily realised late rates.

Another full yarding of fat pigs came forward and sold readily at late rates, baconers in particular being keenly sought after. An average penning of stores met a ready .sale, values being well in advance of last sale. East 'Coast Cattle. —
