N.Z. FARMERS’ ONION
MATAMATA BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Matamata branch of the Farmers’ Union was held on Friday in the Farmers’ Hall. Mr. F. C. Bush presided. Broadcast for Farmers The Auckland executive wrote asking for comment on the reception from IZJ, Auckland, and whether such broadcasts .on farming affairs were wanted.
Mr. D. B. Higgins thought that a message should be sent forward appreciating the fact that time was given by the station to the Farmers’ Union. The reception was not' too good, and farmers were busy just now, but he thought all looked'forward to the time when they would have move leisure and the power of the station was greater. . Mr. A. Carter seconded the proposition, and it was agreed to forward a letter on these lines and to thank Mr. Robinson for his effort. It was also decided to approach Mr. A. F. Moncur, M.P., with the object of securing more attention being paid to the farmers’ viewpoint by the broadcasting authorities. <
Maori Labour Mr. Higgins gave details of the scheme for the employment of Maoris from the East coast in the Waikato, particulars of which have been published in the Record. Mr. Higgins said that the scheme would be tried out, and already one female worker had been placed in the Matamata district.
