CHURCH PARADE
CALEDONIAN SOCIETY On Sunday the Caledonian Society, as a body, attended- the Presbyterian Church in honour of St. Andrew. There was a fair attendance of members, each wearing a badge and rosette. The opening hymn, appropriately enough, was “Oh, God of Bethel”; and the ensuing Psalms that were sung must have brought memories to many of worship in Scotland. Rev. J. H. Combes, in his sermon, showed how the general tendency of Scottish settlement in new lands was to be drawn to the Presbyterian Church, as it was the national one of their country. It was a natural and healthy emotion to be proud of pne’s country. # St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, was one who followed the call of Jesus without question . Others of the British Isles—English, Irish and Welsh —had each their own special way of worshipping God; that which appealed to the national temperament. To-day, particularly in a new country, there was need to remember the lessons of the past, and unite in wholehearted devotion to One who was the inspiration of all patron saints. Loyalty to Jesus Christ alone could unite all countries and churches.
