D« Forrest, iu.b.C., a Roman Catholic l>nest who has made a reputation Ilk the Southern Hemisphere as sin au* thor and a preacher. Father Forrest* who is an Australian, has for tea years been touring the world in thq course of his duties, and is now eiw gaged on a six months’ tour of Ne*Ws Zealand conducting a series of lec-» tures, mission sermons dnd retreat* at the request of Bishop Liston* Father Forrest is the author of sev* eral books and pamphlets, one of which is entitled “ Why Not be ft Cdtholic 1 ” Recently he conducted for several weeks a series of ad* dresses to all denominations in thflj Auckland Cathedral. These were well attended, and a great many non** Catholics sent in written inquiries which were answered during the lec* tures. These lectures were marked hjj 111 great cordiality throughout. Father Forrect is conducting IK two weeks’ mission at Matamata. Iq his missions two masses are cele* Brated each morning, and each eve*» ning the devotions consist of th<( rosary, sermon and benediction. Thi church has been each nighj* and among those' attending has beeq a fair proportion of non-Catholic* Father Forrest stresses the fact thaf abuse is not argument. While in Auckland Father Forres! received many letters from non* Catholics appreciating his discours* ' es, and he greatly appreciates this spirit of harmony which he noticed prevailing in Matamata.
