MATAMATA Sharp Rise in Beef There was a small yarding of aIL classes of cattle at the Farmers' Auctioneering Co.’s fortnightly stock sale at Matamata on Wednesday. Beef, which was yarded in short numbers, sold under keen competition at advanced rates. Second quality boner cows showed no alteration.

A smaller yarding than usual of dairy cattle was offered. Heifers close to profit and showing quality found an improved demand, while f dairy cows remained unchanged. Pedigree cows and heifers on account of Mr. W. C. Mears, Walton, sold from to 10 guineas. A few pens of Jersey heifer calves met with better competition than at previous sales.

Only a few pens of fat pigs were yarded, values remaining firm. A full yarding of stores and weaners sold exceptionally well under spirited competition from a full bench of buyers. FRANKTON ■ I I • Fat Stock Prices Firm An average yarding of fat sheep, comprised mostly of wethers, was penned at the Frankton saleyards on Tuesday. Late rates were maintained. There were only a few primequality fat ewes, and competition was good. .Fat lambs were yarded in large numbers and were sold at slightly-easier rates. There was a smaller entry of ox beef, the majority again being wellfinished cattle. Competition was good, and the market remained very firm. There was a larger yarding than usual of cow and heifer beef. Prime-quality lines showed an improvement on recent sales. Another small entry of fat pigs was sold readily on a firm market.
