GOOD HERD UNDER TEST

“kINGSMERE” JERSEYS Figures for Past Season Heifers bred by Mr. J. A. Sanders, of “ Kingsmere,” Piako, Morrinsville, have shown very satisfactory production under group herd-testing during the past season. Mr. Sanders is a member of the executive of the Morrihsville Jersey Club, and his whole herd of about 50 dairy cows of all ages has been under group test for many seasons. Ten ;, of the best heifers, of which seven were .first calvers and three second calvers, averaged 4211 b of bufterfat in 311 days, while the whole 17 heifers in the herd (12 first calvers and five second calvers) averaged 3461 b of fat in 287 days. These: 17 heifers are the, full line of daughters by the herd sire, - Burncroft Ambassador, who is by Ivondale Golden Lad out of Ivondale Lady Aster (6121 b of fat at three years), and is a grandson of Ivondale Golden Lass (9051 b), an exNew Zealand-class leader. Three heifers were credited with over 5001 b of 'fat for the season. They were: Kingsmere Empress, two

Of the mature cows in the herd the best production was that of Lochgarra Sylvia, which has been credited with 6971 b of fat in 314 days this season, and has had an average test of 7.0. This cow is the dam of Kingsmere Empress, the top-produc-er among the heifers (5261 b of fat in 324 days). The above production was recorded under ordinary herd conditions, no dry feed being given. On the Kingsmere farm of 86 acres are carried 100 head of stock, including 50 dairy cows and three horses.
