Matamata were having the best of play on the whole, despite the fact that they were playing against a fair wind. Rotorua forwards were lying offside a lot, and a further penalty saw Carroll kick his third goal. Matamata 9, Rotorua 3.

The home players were caught napping on several occasions following short free kicks and a timely mark by Wilson saved one dangerous situation. J. Carroll and Howard led a rush, the latter just failing to gather .jyith the line open. Inman streaked through the defence, and looked like scoring on his own, but his supports mulled the ball. JUNIOR FINAL.

Walton 8, Hinuera 7. The final game in the junior competition between Walton, winners of the northern section, and Hinuera, winners of the southern section, roused much interest and was watched by a large crowd throughout. There was little between the teams, and it was anyone’s game right to the final whistle. In the first half play fluctuated at a great rate up and down field, but neither side could cross the other’s line. Hopkins potted a great field goal for Hinuera, to which Walton could only reply with a penalty. In the second half Walton made great efforts and Groube got over for McLean to kick a great goal. In the closing stages Germann outpaced the defence to score, and though the flag was raised for the conversion, the referee disallowed the kick.
