BRIDGE NEAR PUTARURU.
REBUILDING SUGGESTED.
County Engineer’s Report.
Reporting to the Matamata County Council on Friday the engineer stated that plans for the rebuilding of the Oraka bridge at Taumangi had been forwarded to the Public Works Department for approval, and application for subsidy towards the cost Jiad been made. (Continued in Next Column)
The bridge would be for one-way traffic, and constructed of hardwood carried on steel girders, supported by concrete abutments standing on the natural rock, which was about three feet below water level. The estimated cost of the bridge was £460. The new bridge would be two feet higher than the present structure, and located about a chain further down stream, permitting a substantial improvement in road alignment. Alterations to road alignment and grade were not included in the estimate as this was considered a suitable job to be carried out as a relief work under No. 5 scheme.
