Peace Cup

HOLDERS WIN AGAIN.

Morrinsville 41, Paeroa 3.

Game in Rain and Mud.

Morrinsville senior representatives retained the Peace Cup by defeating Paeroa on Saturday by 41 points (11 tries and four conversions) (an. unconverted try).

Tries for Morrinsville were scored by J. Aitken (3), M. Anderson (2), W. Cameron, C. Cameron, F. Jeune (2), J. Leeson and A. Robson, three being converted by W. Cameron and one by Aitken. A water-logged field and steady rain made the game amusing for the spectators, but not an exhibition of good football. Pools of water in which the ball floated stopped dribbling rushes as effectively as the opposing backs. Morrinsville scored a few minutes after the start and Paeroa evened with a try. The score was 3-all until well on in the first half, with the Paeroa forwards more than holding their own in dribbling rushes up and down the field. In the final 15minutes of the first half Morrinsville added three tries, one converted, to lead 14—3 at half-time. Paeroa offered stout resistance for a time in the second half, but then lost heart and allowed the Morrinsville forwards to dominate play, while the Morrinsville backs, handling the wet ball well, found gap after gap in the Paeroa defence. Paeroa were a very tired team in the final quarter, and several Morrinsville men scored without much opposition. •• ; ■ The Morrinsville'forwards won the match by their usual solid play throughout. The Paeroa pack made great efforts early in both halves, but lacked ability to finish off promising rushes. In the second half they wilted before the continuous pressure of the Morrinsville pack, and then the Morrinsville backs got chances to shine. The match demonstrated that the Morrinsville pack is

getting into better condition, and that the backs are dangerous .on attack when the opposing pack tires and loses control of the ball. Aitken, with his swerving run, cut the defence in two time after time, and scored three tries, besides paving the way for others.
