Mr. W. D. L. MacDonald, inspector of stock, Matamata, has been appointed Government representative on the Kiwitahi Rabbit Board.

A young man named John Henry Mahood, a brother of Mr. E. Mahood, of Matamata, was admitted to the Waikato Hospital on Saturday night suffering from concussion sustained through being knocked down in Cambridge by a motor cycle.

Amongst the Justices of the Peace recently gazetted are the following names of interest to Matamata residents: Messrs. J. Pohlen (Matamata), Phil Hawke (Hinuera), Charles Gordon Lucas (Whakatane) and Marmaduke St. John Paxton (Putaruru).

Last week Mr. J. Pohlen, councillor for Matamata riding, in company with the engineer, Mr. M. E. Fitzgerald, inspected the hill and sharp bend in the road just past the Mangawhero stream bridge on the Matamata-Tauranga highway with a view to early improvements. It is proposed to cut through the hill on Mr. Mason’s property, and the survey pegs have already been put. in. The work will be gone on with' as soon as arrangements have been completed with the Main Highways Board.

The following is taken from an Australian paper : “ Ragwort still raises its yellow-flowered head and takes toll of cattle, despite scientific efforts to exterminate it. Attempts in South Gippsland with a small red-and-black moth, which was supposed to lay its eggs on the leaves of the weed, leaving the hatched caterpillars to destroy the plant, failed. There’s money in it for the man who can produce a real exterminator.”
