Croquet Fete. On Saturday last the Hinuera Croquet Club gave an afternoon for Plunket funds. The weather was ideal, and the lawns were in splendid condition. During the afternoon several guessing competitions were held and several games of novelty croquet were well patronised and proved a good source of revenue. A “ bring and buy ” stall in the hands of Mesdames Swan and Denton was soon sold out, and the croquet ladies dispensed dainty afternoon teas from a never failing supply of tempting home-made dainties. The competition results' were as follows: —Crazy croquet, in charge of Mrs. T. De Renzy, was won by Mr. George Horan; clock croquet, Mrs, J. Hayes, won by Mr. C. Collins; ladder croquet, Mrs. Wheeler, won by Mr. Ralph Settle; target croquet, Mrs. Oates, won by Mrs. Wheeler; trail croquet, Mrs. H. Collins, won by Mrs. F. C. Conder. Mrs. F. C. Conder took charge of the cake-guessing competition for two beautifully iced cakes donated by Mrs. W. Brockelsby and Mr. Gardiner. These were won by Mrs. Fred Mrs. Rasmussen and Mr. C. Collins. The latter- two tied for Mr. Gardiner’s and divided the spoils. A pair of mocassins was won by Master Reid Calder, and a child’s tea set by Mrs. Sanderson. Mrs. J. Calder took charge of the cushion competition, and the fortunate winner was Mrs. Stan Wright. Through the afternoon’s effort the Plunket Society benefited to the •extent of approximately £l7. Dental Clinic. The school dental nurse, Miss V. Jolly, visited the school on Thursday, and the first batch of patients visited, the clinic on Tuesday. Valedictory. On Monday evening the Rev. and Mrs. Brown, who are leaving shortly for Morrinsville, were tendered a farewell social in the Methodist Church. During the evening the following items were rendered:—Sengs, Miss Norma Cannell, “Fiddle and I”; Mr. P. Field, “My Task and Mr. Calvin Gifford. Rev. and Mrs. Gardner Brown sang a duet and a trio was rendered by Misses F. Settle, M. Hawke and Mr. Howard Hawke. Very entertaining elocutionary items were given by Miss Meryl -Hawke and Master F. Conder. During the evening Mr. R. Hawke thanked Rev. Brown for the work he had done in the district, and expressed the regret of the congregation at losing such a popular minister. Mr. W. Oates then presented Mr. Brown with a cheque as a token of the esteem with which he was held among the church people. Mr. Oates also tiianked Mr. Brown for the interest he had taken in the Bible Class. On behalf of the Ladies’ Guild, Mrs.' v R. Hawke presented Mrs. Brown with a rose bowl and Master Bruce Brown with a cup, saucer and plate. Rev. and Mrs. Brown suitably responded. Games occupied the remainder of the evening, which was brought to a close with “ Auld Lang Syne.” Personal. Mrs. Sanderson, of Ohura, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. V. Rasmussen. Mr. and Mrs. J. Robertson and daughter, of Auckland, motored down to spend the week-end with Mrs. W. Maud. Mr. D. Mclsaac and his sister, Mrs A. Rowe, returned on Sunday from a motor trip to Blenheim. Miss Adams, of Hikurangi, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. A. McCallum. Miss S. Hewlett, of Auckland, is the guest of Miss Edna Swan. Miss A. Gordon, of Blockhouse ■Bay, is spending a holiday as the guest of Miss Thoral Wheeler. Mrs. and the Misses N. and C. Bond, of Victoria avenue, Auckland, are the guests of Mrs. J. Watson, “Eden Park,” Hinuera. (Continued in Next Column.)

Mr. and Mrs. H. Conder spenf last week-end at Tauranga. Mr. R. Mair, of Waimiha, is staying with Mr, F, Germann for a few days, Mrs. and Miss R. Watson, . accompanied by Mrs. and the Misses N. and C. Bond, spent last week-end at The Mount, Tauranga. Mr. A. Randrup visited Tauranga during the week-end.
