Croquet Club.
The annual meeting of the Hinu- v era Croquet Club showed that after a successful year the club starts the new season with a small balance. f The election of officers resulted as follows : Patron, Mr. H. Settle ; president, Mrs. B. Tisch ; secretary, Mrs. A. E. Rowe; treasurer, Mrs. B. Wheeler.
The opening was held on Saturday. Visitors were present from the Matamata and Waharoa clubs.
Mr. Settle, the club’s patron, after a short speech, declared the greens open, and Mrs. Settle drove the first ball through the hoop. The trophy winners were as follow : Clock croquet, Mrs. J. White (Matamata); crazy croquet, Mrs. T. De Renzy ; croquet trail, Mrs. Wheeler ; target croquet, Mr. Settle. Tennis Club. .
Fine but very windy weather favoured the Tennis Club’s opening on Saturday. As the result of several working bees the courts were in splendid condition for play. Visitors from all the surrounding clubs were present.
Mr. T. Ccrrv, after a brief speech in which he welcomed visitors and new members, declared the courts open for play and called upon Miss Hazel Green, the top lady player, to play the first ball over the net. Afternoon tea was , served, after which, through the able management of the club captain, all players attending had a good afternoon’s tennis.
