Popular Girl Contest.

Interest in the Kereone popular girl contest is growing as the closing date draws near. The positions of candidates is being kept secret, and indications point to an even contest.

Two well-attended functions took place on Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs.' W. E. Smith were host and hostess at a 500 and wireless evening at their home in Kereone, in support of Miss Eynon. The first prizes for cards were annexed by Mrs. T. Eynon and Mr. R. Cochrane, the “ boobies ” being awarded to Mrs. N. Anderson and Mr. G. Bennett. A competition for a jug was won by Mr. T. Eynon, who was also successful in a contest for a cake dish. The winners of other competitions were Mr. G. Bennett (pipe) and Mr. W. Norman (box of tea), Mr. R. Mclntyre 1, Mr.. J. Williams 2 (telegram competition). The evening concluded with thanko expressed to the host and hostess by Mr. R. Mclntyre. In support of Miss Harnett, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Mclntyre organised a dance in the Masonic Hall, Morrinsville, on Saturday evening, function being well attended. Those present included members of the, Waihi football team which played Morrinsville in the afternoon. Music was supplied by Miss Z. Howarth and Mr. N. Webb. A waltzing competition was won by Mr. Haylock and Miss Jennings, and a lucky spot waltz by Mr. J. Bathgate and Miss R. Wilson. Mr. J. Harnett was M.C.

(3ne ftf the most successful parties of the series held on behalf of Miss Eynon’s candidature took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. N. Anderson last evening. The time was passed with 500 and competitions. The winners of the former were Mrs. Hoolihan and Mr. j. Norman, the booby prizes going to Mrs. G. Bennett and Mr. L. Dike. Competitions were won by jVIr. L. Dike (electric iron), Mr. B. MacDonald (soap and slippers) and Mr. V. Brown (handkerchiefs). Mr. R. R. Heaton moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson at the conclusion of the evening.
