Final Meeting for Term The final meeting of the Piako County Council, as at present constituted, was hold on Monday. There were present: Crs. J. B. Thomas (chairman, Waihou), W. McLean (Walton), F. W. Howard (Manawaru J. Orr (Te Aroha), F. W. Walters (Waito'a), 0. Glynn (Morrinsville), J. Bell (Kiwitahi). CAM BRIDGE SA NATO RIUM.. Tho Chief Health Officer (Dr. T. 11. Valintine), wrote acknowledging the Council's resolution of protest at the closing of Te Waikato Sanatorium, lie added: “The other sanatoria to which 1 referred on October 2nd arc situated at Waipukurau and Otaki respectively. At Waipukurau there is a large sanatorium which was erected by tho Defence authorities in consultation with the Health Department, primarily for the treatment of tuberculous soldiers, but which is already being used for the treatment of civilian cases. A further extension of this already large institution has been authorised by the Government, so as to make it capable of holding an increased number of patients. The Government does not intend to send tubercular patients to Hanmer, as suggested in the Council’s letter.” The chairman said the hospitals referred to did not meet with the needs of the Auckland province. The Council would be lacking in their duty to the district if they allowed the Cambridge Sanatorium to be closed without an emphatic protest. It was resolved to circularise .all the local bodies bodies in the Auckland province, asking them to support the Council’s request for the retention of the Cambridge Sanatorium. , ACCOMMODATION AT MANAWARU. The Cambridge Town Clerk forwarded details of a proposal to raise a loan of £IO,OOO over a wide area (including Piako County), to build a new bridge over the Karapiro stream near Cambridge, and asking for the appointment of two delegates to a conference at Cambridge on November 22nd, to further consider tho project. The length of the proposed bridge would be 303 ft., and it would be much higher above the water than the present structure. Road deviation would be necessary if the highlevel scheme were adopted. The question of proportionate contributions towards the cost of construction and maintenance would bo discussed at the conference. The local bodies invited to the conference were the Ma-tamat-i, Pinko, Waikato and Waipa county councils, Hamilton Borough Council, Learning’on Town Board, and Cambridge, Pukckura and Roto-o-rangi Road Boards.—lt was decided to inform the Cambridge Borough Council that the Piako County Council was not interested in the proposal. WALTON MATTERS. Mr. P. C. Warner wrote, asking that sand be deposited on the road near his property at Walton. —The engineer was instructed to submit)’ a report. Six settlers on the Piako-iti road at Richmond Downs requested that the gates on the public road be removed. It was decided to give the settler concerned three months in' which to remove the gates complained of, and to his property.
