MATAMATA BUILDING SOCIETY

Annual Meeting The annual general meeting, of the above society was held in the Farmers’ Union Hall, Matamata, on Thursday evening. The following directors were present: Messrs. A. J. Tong (chairman), J. Blyth, W. C. Vincent, A. K. Weeks, F. Hitchcock and W. S. Ilut-he. Apologies were received from Messrs. W. Egan and Stewart for non-attendance. The sharelm'dcrs attendance was good, and those present took a very keen interest in the aiVail's of the society. , . REPORT. The report and balance-sheet for the past year was placed before the meeting, and met with the approval of those present. The directors staled that they had the pleasant task of testifying to a hopeful year. One. group was' in existence, and there were 107 members representing 2G9 shares. Tflis was regarded as encouraging, and it was hoped that by the cai nos! co-operation and support of all members, the number of shareholders would be considerably increased daring the ensuing yc-iv. The directors, in conclusion, expitssed their appreciation of the dibits of all responsible for the success o! the society, on whose assistance and consistent support the continued success o! the society dcdepended. The co-operation and active interest of all was again invited who desired to see the society reach that high level of prosperity enjoyed by other societies. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were appointed:—Directors: Messrs. W. A. Gordon (chairman), F. Hitchcock (vice-chairman), A. J. Tong, James Blyth, W. Egan, W. C. Vincent, A. K. Weeks, J. Draper, S. T. Neems; auditors, Messrs, Uren and A. J. Johnston. GENERAL. It was unanimously decided to hold monthly meetings of directors in the future. The balance-sheet disclosed a very saitsfactory position of the society lor the first year of its existence. During the year a sum of £4OO was disposed of to members, and it is anticipated that a further sum will be available for 1 distribution early in the New .Year. The retiring chairman (Mr. Tong) congratulated the secretary on the way the affairs of the society were placed before the shareholders.
