SUCCESSFUL PADDY’S MARKET

The local effort to raise funds far soldiers X’mas parcels by means/ of a Paddy’s Market in the Garrison Hall on Saturday proved most successful. The fine sum of approximately G64 was realised from the sale of sweets., cakes, produce, etc. Tine Arrow Eire Brigade kindly conducted side shows, this adding appreciatably to the final result. The organiser, Mr E. Sharpe, must be complimented on the success of the market. His helpers on the stalls were: cakes etc. Mrs C. IngHs and Miss B. Earraut; produce, flowers etc. Mesdames E. Sharpe, G. Herbert and J. Hamilton. Several raffles were got ,off under permit. In the evening a dance was held in the hall and proved n. successful function. . “Heavy smoker. Sir?” asked a passenger aboard the Chrlstchuncli-Dun-edin express, addressing his vis-a-vis who had just “obliged with a match” “Pretty fair,” laughed the other, “four or five ounces a week.” “By Jove!” was the reply, “if I smoked all that I’d be a nervous wreck in a month 1” “What sort d’you smoke?’’ queried No. 1, He named the brand.

During Hie visit of the Hon. H. G. Mason, Minister of Education, he took the opportunity to visit the local schools and manual training college under the escort of members of the local committee. Mr Mason axpressed himself pleased with the improvements that had been made.
