LONDON BOMBED

War came to London in earnest on Saturday night when the enemy made its most violent and strongest attack so far in the war. The “allolcar” -signal was given after 8 hour.4 IS minutes. This was the city’s longest raid. Four hundred people were killed and between 1300 and 1400 were seriously injured. The Germans lost 88 planes out of the 500 they are reported to have sent over. This would mean the loss of probably 200 airmen. The B.A.F fighters brought down 74 of the enemy planes and anti-air-craft fire accounted for 14. Twenty - two of the B.A.F. planes are missing but the pilots of eight are .safe:.

BOMBERS OVER BERLIN
The heaviest B.A.F. raid on Berlin since the outbreak of war took place on Friday night. The British pilots appeared to ignore the anti-aircraft toe and guns of all calibres operated against them without effect. The planes' were so low at one place that the pilots could have machine-gunned the buildings if they had chosen.
4000 AIRMEN LOST
It is estimated that the attacks on the United Kingdom since June 17 have already cost Germany over 4000 airmen. Between August 30th and September sth 371 raiders were brought down.
