After a short cessation in its operations, Skippers Limited, Maori Point, are in full work again under the direction of Mr Robt. Climie. With the aid of the new hydro-electric power just installed, it is hoped to have continuous running of the elevator plant. Provided the weather conditions are favourable the prospects should be much brighter for the company. -S I M ; - The usual fortnightly euchre tournament and dance, under the auspices of the local branch of the Labour Party was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening. There was a good attendance. The prizes were won by Mrs T. Fearn and Mr A. Atley, the consolation 'awards going to Mrs McFelin and Mr H. Harris. After an excellent supper had been handed round, dancing was indulged in. A Monte Carlo dance was won ‘by Mr 0. M. Inglis and Mrs Johnstone. Investigations made by the New Zealand Counties’ Association shoAV that the wages paid to counties outside staffs have increased by 30 per cent., or at least £250,000 a year, a,Si the result of the introduction of award rates of pay.
