S Stronach, Morris and Co., Ltd., report lor week ending Thursday, 19tli August: Eat Cattle.—There was a larger yarding of fat cattle forward for yesterday’s market, 310 being penned. The quality generally was good, there being a big proportion of well finished bullocks on offer with a smaller yarding of cows and heifers than has been the case for some time. The opening market for all prime quality bullocks was from £1 to 30s below last sale’s average rates but as the sale progressed this class improved 10s to £1 per head with cows and heifers on a par with last sale’s average prices. Extra prime heavy bullocks to £2l 2s 6d, prime £l7 10s to £l9 1.2s 6d, medium ! £l3 10s to £l4 las, light from £lO 15s, prime cows and heifers to £l3 2s 6d, medium £8 15s to £lO os, light from £6 15s. Eat Sheep—There was a small yarding of sheep forward for yesterday’s market, 310 being penned. The quality of the yarding was fair, there being a bigger proportion of good wethers on offer than has been the case for some time, with a fair sprinkling of heavy weight ewes. The balance of the yarding was made up of medium weights with a bigger proportion of light and unfinished sheep. There was a decided improvement on all quality sheep. Prime heavy wethers can be quoted from 4s to 6s above last week’s average rates with prime heavy ewes showing a rise of 4s. Light and unfinished sheep did not show the rise but were selling on a par to 2s firmer on last sale’s a’ates. Extra prime heavy Avethers to 54s 9d, prime 44s to 47s 6d, medium 36s to 38s 6d, light from 27s 6d, prime heavy ewes to 41s 3d, prime 36s to 38s 6d, medium 30s to 32s 6d, light and aged from 22s 6d. Fat Pigs.—There Avas a medium entry of fat pigs and these met with keen competition, prices being firm at late ruling rates. Oats.—There are very few offering and merchants are not keen to buy meantime. A grade gartons are bringing up to 3s 4d on trucks, country sidings. Wheat.—Millers will take any lines suitable at full schedule rate©. Foavl Avheat meets Avith good inquiry at up to 5s 6d eix store, Dunedin. Chaff.—Sufficient is coming forward to meet the local inquiry and prime bright oaten sheaf is bringing up to £5 10s ex truck, Dunedin. Ilabbitskins. —We held our usual rabbit skin sale on Tuesday and offered a fairly Large catalogue to a good attendance of buyers.
