Stronach, Morris and Co., Ltd., report for week ending Thursday, sth Aug.: Fat Cattle —There was a small entry of fat cattle penned for yesterday’s market, 262 being forward. The quality of the yarding was quite fair, there being four or five trucks of heavy weight bullocks on offer, the balance being made up of medium weight bullocks with a fair proportion of cows and heifers. On account of the short supply, all quality cattle showed a rise of £2 per head, this rate being maintained throughout. Extra prime heavy bullocks to £23 12s 6d, prime heavy £l6 to £l9, medium £l2 7s Gd to £ls 2s Gd, light from £9 12s 6d, prime heavy cows and heifers to £ll, medium £lO to £ll ss, light from £6 10s upwards. Fat Sheep.—There was another large yarding of sheep forward for yesterday’s' market, 1830 being penned. The quality of the yarding was fair, there being a bigger proportion of good wethers on offer than has been the case for some time, with a fair sprinkling of heavy weight ewes. The balance of the yarding was made up of medium weights with a bigger proportion of light and unfinished sheep. The market for all quality sheep was from par to a a shade firmer on last week’s rates, with medium, light and unfinished sheep easier by Is to 2s on last sale’s average rates, there being quite a few pens of unfinished sorts attracting no bidding. Extra prime heavy wethers to 49s 3d, prime 34s Gd to 41s 9d, medium 30s to 33s Gd, extra prime heavy ewes to 395, prime 26s Gd to 30s, medium 22s Gd to 25s 9d, light 14s to 21s Gd. Fat Pigs.—There was a medium en,try of fat pigs and these met with keen competition, prices being firm at late ruling rates. Store Pigs—There was a medium entry and these met with keen competition, prices being firm at late rates. Oats.—There are very few offering and merchants are not keen to buy meantime. A grade gartons are bringing up to 3s 4d on trucks, country sidings. Wheat —Millers will take any lines suitable at full schedule rates. Fowl wheat meets with good inquiry at up to 5s Gd eix store, Dunedin. Chaff.—'Sufficient is coining forward to meet the local inquiry and prime bright oaten sheaf is bringing up to £5 10s ex truck, Dunedin. Potatoes—Fair consignments have been coming to hand from the North and the market is a shade easier. King Edwards are meeting with the best inquiry and these are bringing up to £9 ex store, Dunedin, and Arran Chiefs £7. Sheepskins. —We held our sheepskin sale on Tuesday last, and offered a large catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. There was very keen competition throughout though in sympathy with ifrie drop in the market overseas, prices for full-woolled skins were from par to a shade easier. Hoggets and Short-Avoolled sorts, however, met with good inquiry and were from par to a shade firmer.
