MISCELLANEOUS SPORTING.

[By Gleaner]. | FOOTBALL. j Competitions in full swing in the big centres. 3-2-3 scrums proving unwieldy and troublesome to players and referees. Hastings, the crack team for many seasons in the Napier-H askings Subunion, is not doing well so far in the opening games. Tec. Old Boys led by Joe Setford, and Napier H.S. 0.13. led by Dick St cere, are fielding very smart XVs. Pollock, playing centre for Petone, is showing form up to interpro. standard already, while Julian and Kilby are two halves likely to shine in the Wellington competition. Lance Johnson seems to have lost a great deal of his speed, but is still a clever general. Herb Lilbunie was out ol the game for a week or two with a damaged leg. Hutt miss the All Black. Oottcrill and Manchester are going to be the two leading forwards in Canterbury. Fit and hard, they are leading the Christchurch pack in great style. George Hart is playing in a new role. Because his club are short of inside backs, the flying wing has taken on the 5-8 Job and is some good too. GENERAL. The Otago A.A. Centre are not going to allow the Olympic Council to get away with the selection of Miss Ranch as a N.Z. Olympic rep. without a stir. Basketball is in full swing.
