FIFTY YEARS’ SYNE.

Golden Wedding Celebrations. On December 21 last Mr and Mrs E. V. Anderson, very old and highly respected residents oi Queenstown who now . live at 20 Huxley St., Christchurch, celebrated their ylden wedding. All the members of their family living in N.Z. were present, these being: Mrs John Thomas, Gorge Eoad, Southland; Mr .1. A. Anderson, Waikaka Valley; Mrs J. E. McCaulev. Lumsden: Mrs W. D. Philpott, Whangarei; Mr E. F. Andeiy son. (Queenstown: Mrs J. B. \\ ilby, Christchurch; Mr J. C. Anderson, Herbertville; Mr A. K. Anderson, Dannevirke; Miss Adele Anderson, Christchurch, and Mr A. S. Anderson, Martinborough. The only absent member of the family was Mrs G. E. Marsh, who lives in Shanghai. Mr and Mrs Anderson and their sons and daughters had a very happy re-union in honour oi the auspicious event, the celebrations taking the shape in a high tea at the home of Mrs Withy in Hereford St. James, the eldest son, proposed the toast of the health of his parents, congratulating them on having attained their •‘jubilee” and expressing, good wishes for a continuance of good health and happiness. Other members of the family' also spoke to the toast in felicitous terms. Mr and Mrs Anderson were then presented with a purse of sovereigns by their sons and daughters. In the evening over eighty guests assembled in the Oddlellows Hall for a social evening tendered the ‘‘happy couple.” In addition to a number of musical items, an enjoyable dance programme was gone through, the ‘‘bridegroom” entering with much zest into a set of lancers. One of the features of the evening was tintoasting of Mr and Mrs Anderson and the presentation to the latter ol a bouquet of everlasting flowers. Mr Anderson made appreciative replv..

Mr and Mrs R. P. Anderson were married at Arrowtown on December 21, 1378, and of the union there was a family of thirteen, eleven of whom are still living. There are also thirty-two grand children. Mr and Mrs Anderson spent most of! their fnarriecl life in the Lakes district, where Mr Anderson was employed mining at Cardrona. Skippers and other parts. He also spent some time, at Bendigo and at Invercargill. At Arrowtown and Queenstown he was engaged in the earlier days in the butchering business, but subsequent to that he was farming—mostly m the dairying line. During his long residence iu Queenstown Mr Audenon took a part in public affairs, being for several terms a member of the local Borough Council. Some five years ago he sold his house, on the Eastern Terrace and went to Christchurch to live. Their many friends in M akatipu will join in offering Mr and Mrs Anderson hearty congratulations and good wishess.
