The Mining Act, 1926.
SOME NEW PROVISIONS. Under the provisions of the Minting Act, 1926, which has just come into force, all persons engaged in honing for minerals are required to forward to the Inspector pi Minieis a plan, sheaving the locality, position and: depth of the holes, together with the values obtained. I’his applies to mill 1 drilling which is carried out by private enterprise or not. The object of this is to preserve' these records for the benefit of any person, who may need thei same in tire future after .mining has ceased for the time being. The Act „ lias also been amended so as to enable river and. dredging claims to be amaiigiaimated, notwithstandlimig the fact that the distance between each may be more than half a mile apart. The law as it now stands is that the distance is indefinite, but it is subject to the approval■ of the Minister of Mines, who is the deciding authority. All mining privileges in the: Otago goldfields except residence site licenses will henceforth he subject to the consent of the Minister of Mines-
