BOWLING.

The representatives of the Wakatipu Bowling Club who journeyed to Cromwell last Wednesday for the purpose of trying conclusions with the holders of the "Jolly" Cup were again defeated, this time by a margin of three points 20—17. The team comprised T. Kelly, V. Paine, L. J. Lynch and W. D. Warren (s) and the holders (Cromwell) were represented by Varcoe, Jolly, Murdoch and Dr Shaw (s). The Cromwell;tes were known to be a strong combination, having already placed six wins to their credit. The weather was favourable for the match and the green was in very fair order and was fast considering the heavy rain that had fallen prior to the date of match. The match was commenced at 2 p.m. and the first two heads gave Cromwell 3pts. Queenstown then notched 3. Cromwell scored singles in the next two heads and a five in the sixth head, which put them up 7. Queenstown replied with 5 in the next three heads and Cromwell brought their score up to 12 at the 11th head. At the 13th head the scores were 12 all. . Cromwell added 7 to their score in the next four heads including a four, which was somewhat disastrous to the visitors at this stage of the game. The home team got another point and the visitors 5 more, making the final score as shown below. The match on the whole was interesting and was watched by a good number of spectators. The standard of play was much better in the second half of the game than in the first and, if anything, Cromwell had the best of the luck which obtains in the game. The Cromwell ladies kindly provided afternoon tea. At the conclusion of the match the usual courtesies were exchanged, Dr Shaw speaking for Cromwell and Mr V. Paine for Queenstown. Dr Shaw stated that his Club were only playing one more match this season, namely, with Naseby and then their Teen would be closed. The following are the scores:—
