LAKE WAKATIPU STEAMER SERVICE.
Sib,—l think the time has arrived when the local borough and county council! should in the public interest make tome representations to the Railway Department in order that the public might be given the advantage of every local facility when travelling. The Department advertised an excursion commencing to-day and from past experience must have known that a large number of farmers and others from this district would then travel to Dunedin. The Mountaineer, instead of conveying cargo, should hare been used in tne passenger service. There were over sixty passengers on the Ben Lomond and three quarters of the front part of the ship was taken up with luggage, a boat and a huge plate glass case. Most of the passengers, many of whom had driven in from outlying parts, had, on a cold winter's morning, to stand for over two hours on the one spot. I am, etc., Travillkb. July 31,1911.
