(From our own Correspondent.) Dunedin, this day. At the Land Board meeting, H. Birley was granted renswal of bush license over five acres at Turner's Creek, Dart river, for one year, at £1 rental; license fee, 21s.— The following applications to surrender were accepted, the land to be offered at a capital value of 10s per acre with valuations : Charles Koch, block 1, Upper Wakatipu district, section 4, at £lO3 10s; Section 5, £lO 12s; Section 10, £2O 18s; Robert Elliot, section 21, £7B 17s; Mark Harris, section 19, £l2 3s. The Ravensbourne menagerie show is a great success. Living curiousities are eneluded in it, such as a kangaroo, opossums, lizards and a python measuring 9 feet 7 inches. The Grand National Steeplechase, Christchurch, of 630 sovs was won by Levanter, 1, Mutiny being second and Morag third, dividend £l3 17s. Hurdle race—Kuku; Maiden Hurdle Handicap—Umslopogaas ; Tally-ho—Crocus; Bracelet—Capon. The Christchurch carpenters have struck for 108 per day. For failing to report anemployee's accident, an employer has been fined £lO. The Government intend to strictly enforce this Act At Lord Ranfurly's first levee yesterday the attendance was unprecedented. Two gentlemen fainted. A demonstrative reception was given to the local men of the N.Z. footballers. Captain Duncan, Armit and Harris were literally mobbed last night at the railway station on their arrival by the northern express and several carriage windows were broken. New York cables state that Mr Sherman has publicly repudiated the interview on which he stated that England quarrelled oftener than fought. The denial is discredited. Obituary.—Tom Logan, an early Cromwell pioneer qnartz miner, aged 61 years.
