VICEREGAL VISIT.

Th« Earl of Glasgow's family and suite, whoae arrival at file Lakes district wa announced last week, left here this afternoon by special steamer to Kingston fur Dunedin (where his Excellency is to opet, tbe Medical Congress on Monday.) The party consists of his Excellency and Countess of Glasgow, Ladies Augusta, Alice and Dorothy, and the Hons. John, James and Allan Boyle, atteuied by Major Elliot, private secretary and Captain Preston) A.D.C.

The weather daring the past week has not been very auspicious, although, as the seasons seem to go now, this is not perhaps to be ■wondered at. On Friday evening the Queeostown Brass Band, under Mr Conductor Fraser, gave an open-air concert on the public wharf in houor of the Govenor's visit. TJhe music discoursed was very pretty, and a lar|e number of people were to be seen strolling aboct the esplanade. His Excellency also seemed to enjoy the treat. On Saturday afternoon a number of the party took a drive into the country. His Excellency and suite went to the Head of the Lake on Monday, which brought forth one of those choice gifts of Nature, namely a perfect day, which have been so very rare this season. After spending a moat enjoyable outing the party returned to Queenstown yesterday eveniag. Today his Excellency made the ascent of Ben Lomond, while others of the suite took a drive amongst the mountains to Maori Point, and all left this evening for Kingston, on their return journey. Below are copies of the address to his Excellency and reply:— To his Excellency the Right Honorable David Earl of Glasgow, Govenor of New ZealandMay it please your Excellency, We, the Mayor and Councillors on our own behalf as well as in the rame and on behalf of the burgesses and the Borough of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu, respectfully approach your Excellency on the first visit of yourself as well as of Lady Glasgow and family to this district, with the assurance of our devot«d loyalty to her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen and her Representative. We feel sure that your Excellency, as well as Lady Glasgow, will enjoy yourselves and cam-away a favorable impression of the beautiful and grand scenery of •ur district. Tendering your Excellency and family our heartfelt welcome to Lake Wakatipu, we beg to subscribe ourselves, Your Excellency's obedient ser- ants, F. St. Omer, Mayor, E. T. Wing, j M. J.
