Dehorning of Cattle.
Talking of dehorning cattle, the Chicago "Live Stock Reporter" says::—"ln order to accomplish the best results the cattle must be dehorned when within a year old. They then readily recover from its effects. If they are dehorned as two or three-year-olds they lose flesh under it, their energy dies down, and it is almost impossible to get them in good shape for marketing. The horns should be removed while still soft ; the operation is then a practically painless one to the animal. It is not necessary for us to enumerate all the benefits feeders derive from the early and humane dehorning of cattle. e simply wish to emphasise the importance of dehorning, so that the stock, when shipped, will travel without bruising or jniuring one another, and will show to good advantage on the market, more especially when they are of heavy weight. This is but one of the reasons for dehorning, but is a very important one to the feeder.
