Concert and Ball at Skippers.
A very successful ball, in aid of the school funds, was held in the Library Hall, Skippers, on last Friday evening. About 30 couples were present and dancing was kept up until daylight. The music was kindly supplied by Messrs Traverß (cornet), M. Aspinall (violin) and J. Aspiuall (organ). The refreshments were generously provided—gratis—by the following ladies: —Mesdames M'Kinlay, Aspinall, R. Johnson, S. Johnston, F. Stoue, Sorenson, Dunlop and O'Conner. Mr J. Henderson officiated as M.C. in his usual happy manner. During the evening songs were given by Mrs Gregg, Messrs R. Cotter, R. Johusou, Ward, Mackin and M'Fadzean (Queenstowu); Mr W. Cumming danced the Highland fling and Mr R. Cotter the sailor's hornpipe, both of which were much appreciated. Mr F. Le Sueur, with the help of Mr M'Kinlay and Mrs Stephenson ably superintended and looked after the company's inner man. The ball was one of the most sac essful that has been held here for some years and, as a consequence, a very enjoyable evening was scent. As to whom had the honor of being belle of the ball it would be unwise for me to pass any opinion and would only cause an invidious feeling probably, which might unnecessarily mnr the social ami harmonious feeling that prevailed amongst the fair sex as well as their sterner co-partners in the ftstive gathering. " A Spectator " gives other particulars in a letter from which the following is extracted : The room was well lighted and the pretty dresses of the ladies were shown off to advantage. As regards the belle I think the preference must be given to Miss Greig who was dressed in black satin, and pearls, with white silk sash aud trimmings. Miss Rachael Johnston looked very nice in a blue and pink, as did also Miss Mary Johnston in a pretty pink dress, Misses M'Kie, Kersy, Smith, Stephenson and Sainsbury, also wore pretty costumes.
