Passing a Bill.
v PASSINC A BILL." A Frog over given to a high opinion of his own merits once encountered a crane. " Good morning Mr. Crane," said he. " What is your opinion of matters political 1" " llather dull, my young friend," was the response. " I think it is about time to pass a bill." With that he drove hiS;Sharp beak through poor froggy, and so settled that worthy s political aspirations once and for all. •' Ah," said the crane as he gobbled the fro?, " after all this is the way the world's work is done. My poor friend the frog is a type of the human politician who is all talk; I, on the contrary, illustrate the virtue of prompt action." And he stalked ofE to looi for more politicians.
First Catch your Hare.
CONVICTED OF HIGH TiiEES-ONw ««Ha Iha !" cried the farmer, "at last I've got you," and he took up a cudgel and ran towards his great apple tree. A small boy was perched in it enjoying the apples. " Come down," roared the farmer. "Come up 1" cried the boy, making a rude gesture by placing his thumb to his nose and extending his fingers. " I'll beat you to a mummy," cried the farmer. " You'll have to catch me first," said the boy, plucking another apple. "Wait until I get a ladder," screamed the farmer, now beside himself, and he turned and ran to the farm-house at his best speed. Then the boy quietly descended and skipped across the fields. When the farmer arrived at the tree, puffing and gasping for breath, he stared. " I never thought of that," he muttered in a crestfallen way. " What a fool I am. If I'd stayed by the tree I should 9urely have caught him. This only shows that before you can make your soup you must first catch your hare.
