A diploma and medal of merit has been awarded to specimens of quartz sent from the Phceuix mine ! to the Imlo-l 'oloni.il Inhibition. It is reported that the property known as Gilmour's Wakatip Flour Mills, Lake Hayes, is about to be floated as a joint stock company. It is considered that, under proper management, the venture should prove a successful one. We hear that the Court costs and expenses in connection with the recent action, Smith v. Fischer, are £l6 9s. Comparatively speaking this is cheap litigation, and parties to the suit may be thankful that the case was not a Snpreme Court one. We have been requested to direct attention to the fact that Easter or other festivals cards passing through the post must be entirely open at the ends or sides, otherwise they will be charged letter rate of postage. A sitting of the Court was held to-day, before Messrs J. Reid and W. Warren, for revision of the jury list As the list, however, was considered defective by the omission of a number of names, the Court was adjourned till the 14th instant, to allow time for compiling an amended list. * We yesterday had the pleasure of being the recipients of a dish of magnificent grapes big as gooseberries and black as sloes. They were from a vine growing in the open air at the back of the private residence of Mrs Malaghau, of this town, and afford conclusive proof that, with careful attention and a favorable aspect, the luscious fruit can be grown to perfection in the Lakes district. Mr Fergus, M.H.R., is still amongst his constituents, and returns from Skippers to-morrow. Last week the bon. gentleman was banquetted right heartily ly the sturdy residents of Baunockburn. Mr Fergus, who is accompanied by his very amiable and kind-hearted wife, will, we hear, leave for Dunediu on Tuesday morning.
