JEHU IN PETTICOATS.
Many will doubtless recollect (says the ' Pall Mall Gazette 0 Leech's famous pictures in ' Puncb ' of ladies driving hackney carriages for hire in the West End. That, if we may believe the correspondent of a German journal, is now %/ait accompli —not, indeed, in Modern Babylon, but in the city of Bismarck, Berlin. A young lady, of beautiful features, may, it is said, be seen, daily in the streets of that town during a luxurious vehicle. Shecharges, however, for the immense privilege of being driven by herself three times the ordinary fare. It success follows the experiment of this enterprising damsel, the Berliners expect to see several more public carriages driven by young ladies, chosen as well for their attractiveness as their dexterity. There are, almost weekly, so many novelties in cabs in London that surely a similar movement might with advantage be set on foot here also. At all events, the Fair Drivers Association (Limited), as it might be called, could fairly count on a considerable portion of the Gaiety mashers flocking to them in crowds for a ride. We live in hopes of seeing the idea worked at a profit next summer—or sooner.
