Skippers, March 2, 1886.
Tl)e School Committee, having pledged themselves to subsidise the Board's salary to the teacher to the amount of £2O per annum, purpose holding a conceit and ball on 19th March. A very attractive programme will be submitted, quite a number of young ladies from the more civilised regions having promised their services as vocalists and instrumentalists.
Mr Pearce is away again to Melbourne to complete 6ually the arrangements for commencing operations. The two companies with which his name is indentified—the Phoenix Extended and the Maori Point—promise well to the investors, the latter one especially, as the four original holders have applied for an additional 1000 contributing shares.
The contractors for the Zigzae dray road are pushing on with the work as fas>t as the nature of the undertaking will allow. The rece»t tremendously hot summer has l»eeu gre.»tly against expediting the work; but, srill " Pinoher," I thiuk manages to get his pound of flesh.
