THE STRANGE AND PREVAILING DISEASE OF THIS COUNTRY.

Like a thief at night, it steals in upon us unawares. Many persons have pains about the chest and sides, and sometimes in the back. They feel dull and sleepy ; the mouth has a bad taste, especially in the morning. A sort of sticky sliine collects about the teeth. The appetite is poor. There is a feeling like a heavy load on the stomach ; sometimes a faint all-gone seusation at the pit of the stomach which food does not satisfy. The eyes are sunken, the hands and feet become cold and feel clammy. After a while a cough sets in, at first dry, but after a few months it is attended with a greenish coloured expectoration. The afflicted one feels tired all the while, and sleep does not seem to afford any rest. After a time he becomes nervous, irritable, and gloomy, and has evil forbodings There is a giddiness, a sort of whirling sensation in the head when rising up suddenly. The bowels become costive ; the skin is dry and hot at times ; the blood becomes thick and stagnant, the whites of the eyes become tinged with yellow, the urine is scanty and high-coloured, depositing a sediment after standing. There is frequently a spitting up of the food, sometimes with a sour taste, and sometimes with a sweetish taste ; this is frequently attended with palpitation of the heart; the vision becomes impaired, with spots before the eyes ; there is a feeling of great prostration and weakness. All of these symptoms arc in turn present. It is thought that nearly one-third of our population has this disease in some of its varied forms. It has been found that medical men have mistaken the nature of this disease. Some have treated it for livei complaint, some for dyspepsia, others for kidney disease, &c., &c., but none of the various kinds of treatment have been attended with success. It is foun - !, however, that Seigel's Curative Syrup will effect a perfect cure in every case. This article can be obtained from all chemists and medicine vendors throughout the world, and from the proprietors, A. J. White (Limited), 17, Farringdon Road, London ; or the wholesale agents, Kempthorne, Prosser & Co., New Zealand Drug Co. (Limited) Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. "Spanish Town, Jamaica, Westludies, October 24, 1882.

"Dear Sir, —I write to inform you that I have derived great benefit from 'Seigel's Syrup.' For some years I have suffered from liver complaint, with its many and varied concomitant evils, so that my life was a perpetual misery. Twelve mouths ago I was induced to try Seigel's Syrup, and although rather sceptical, having tried so many reputed and infallible rsmedies, I determined to give it a fair trial. In tto or three days I felt considerably better, and aow at the end of twelve months (having continued taking it) I am glad to say that I am a different being altogether. It is said of certain pens that they ' come as a boon and a blessing to men' and I have no reason to doubt the truthfulness of the statement. I can truly say, however, that Seigel's Syrup has come as a ' boon and a blessing' to me. I have recommended it to several fellow-sufferers from this distressing complaint, and their testimony is quite in accordance with my own. Gratitude for the benefit I have derived froni this excellent preparation, prompts cue to furnish you with this unsolicited testimonial. —I am, Dear Sir,

Yours eve? gratefully, (Signed) " Carey B. Berry,

"A. J. White, Esq."
