Some patients suffering- from nervous affections are afraid from sheer bashfulncss and modesty to personally consult s medical man—other patients have not the self-possession and coolness when in the consulting room, to accurately describe heir SAinptoms— their habits of life, and the nature of the disease they suffer from. Let such persons .lie or she) sit quietly down in the privacy of their own aparunciits, ami with calm minds describe clearly each symptom of their case, a clear statement thus written, and laid before me, is far preferable in nervous diseases to a personal consultation. Where, however, a disease is of 8 peculiar and exceptional character, a personal consultation may become necessary ; but my success in correspondence is so great, that of the thousands upon thousands whom I hav* treated by letter during the last 32 years, not a single mistake has ever occurred, not a case has ever been made public—in fact, the very simplicity of my system of correspondence prevents publicity. At the Mine time medicines are sent to my patients in such a form as to defy detection. How many thousands have I not brought joy to? How many have been enabled to enter into the marriage state through consulting me'.' How many after marriage have privately consulted me and been blessed, and their married lives made fruitful and happy. How many wasW ruined youths of both sexes have also been restoreiTto health, and thanked their manhood, for haying consulted me by letter. How many questions arise wherethe family physician is un. able to unravel the case, and where often the patient lingers on, not daring to tell his family medical adviser the nature of his complaint, until consumption, wasting or mental diseases set in, and the sufferer gets beyond a curable stage, and is left a hopeless wreck. A letter written in the privacy of the room and dropped in the post box reaches me quietly; the answer is returned as quietly and unostentatiously, and the patient, without stepping from his chamber, except to post his letter, is by return of post put in full i>ossession of the nature of his case. His hopes are raised, his doubts removed, and he is comparatively a now man ; in fact, in many eases a new being altogether. The only addition to the ordinary written letter is the age, occupation, hr.bits and symptoms, nothing more. The usual consultation fee of £1 (one pound) must be enclosed, otherwise no answer will be returned. There are thousands of cases in daily life where a consultation with one at a distance, will remove by a single letter, a great fear, a great care, and it often solves what appears as an impenetrable mystery. Many a sad heart has been made joyful on receipt of an explanatory letter from me. \ To those who are about to manry-,.1 would say* consult me before doing so, and thus prevent many after troubles, an.! remove many unnecessary fears and prejudices ; to those, more especially who have suffered in early years from disease, or who have yielded to their passions. To these 1 say, at once consult wiih me, do not tarry, delays are dangerous, and as an exj ert, my time may not be always at vouTfeen ice, you can by simply enclosing one pound, have the benefit of my experience in the same manner ae if I lived in your own town, and with the additional advantage of thorough privacy.—Yours, truly, LOUIS L. SMITH.
